Sustainability is defined in our General Plan as "The ability for the City and residents of Claremont to meet the needs of the present economy, society and environment, while preserving the ability of future generations to meet their needs."

Sustainable Claremont is a non-profit 501(c)3 organization which has been formed to provide educational resources, to engage in advocacy, and to take actions which move us towards sustainability, not only within Claremont but beyond our borders. We are independent of the City but working in cooperation with it and with other organizations. If you would like to take an active part in Sustainable Claremont, click on the "volunteer" button to see a list of some ways in which you can help.

We invite all individuals and organizations to join us in these efforts!

Vote "Yes" on Measure W!

Why? See this video!

Sustainable Claremont, among many other organizations and individuals, supports passage of Measure W, the city measure to fund the purchase of our water system from Golden State Water Company. The answers to many questions about the issue can be found at

CoolCalifornia City Challenge

It was very close, but Riverside (a community 8x our size) narrowly beat us for first place in total points. We did win over $22,000 though, which SC will put to good use! Many thanks to all of you who helped!

Sustainability Dialog: Claremont Energy Challenge

Claremont is the only city in Los Angeles County competing for a $5,000,000 energy conservation prize over the next two years. Sustainable Claremont and CHERP have a plan for winning. Join in a Dialog on getting the entire community engaged!

The Dialog will be 7:00 – 8:30 pm on Monday, November 10, 2014, at Pomona College's Hahn Building (420 Harvard N. Avenue, Claremont), in room 101. This Dialog is sponsored in partnership with Pomona College, the League of Women Voters, and the Interfaith Sustainability Council.

Earth Day 2014

Earth Day 2014 was a great success! Much thanks to our sponsors: boutique teas, Friends of the Bernard Biological Field Station, Klaus & Sons, Loving Hut, Rancho Santa Ana Botanic Gardens, and UBER; with extra thanks to our platinum level supporters, IKEA and Pomona College.
